[info]heart_mint bought me a cookie, and demanded fanart in exchange.

And it seemed like mafia!guys is like the only thing she likes in the world or something, so she told me to draw Jade and Peony, Chinese Mafia style.
...I don't see how that's different from any other mafia, so I drew them Chinese Mafia style.






This was a lineart, but it bothered me how much Peony looked like Charles (scroll down a bit), so I shaded the pic.



Anyway, so I was doodling a bit more because my tablet was being a bitch and refused to work all of last night, and also because it was earth hour (although that honestly had nothing to do with anything, I just lay there for an hour), and when I read this Jade/Peony doujin where Peony throws up after Jade kills someone in front of him, and I thought this really strong.
Well, these things:


  1. Why is Peony being a jackass for no apparent reason?

  2. I really think that Peony knows how to fight. I mean he might not actually do anything, but I really think he actually knows how to fight.


Then my mind started to wander off into the territory of... Hm, I wonder what he looks like when he's training. He probably spars with Jade too.







From what I gathered from reading fanfics and such, it seems like Peony's puffy pants things aren't going over so well with most people.
I actually really like them. 8D
They're so tribal and fun to draw. And comfy, probably.

And I figured that if Jade was just sparring he probably wouldn't wear his entire military uniform. Well, maybe he might.
Make him take it off, Peony!

Edit: OH YES, DOES ANYONE HAVE THE OFFICIAL PIC OF PEONY? I HONESTLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HIS CLOTHES LOOK LIKE, I'VE BEEN USING FANART AS REFERENCE. D:



The other day I was talking to my friend and sending random oldie Chinese music videos to her, because I'm a dork like that. (Yes, I can sing all those songs. Sort of)

So I sent her the video for Shanghai Bund, a classic Chinese television series.

Man, I love that song. I'm gonna keep watching the video until I can sing it.

But I regress.
My friend asked me: "Did you know they're remaking this show? It's filmed in China."

I am intrigued.

She then shows me the opening video for the remake (if the song sounds different, it's because it's in Mandarin):


And holy shit, there shouldn't be so much concentrated sexy in one place.
Wow.

Considering that I bought and watched Blood Brothers for the 1930's Shanghai setting, this show seems right up my alley.

The main problem now is that my Mandarin isn't great and I can't read simplified Chinese.
Maybe I can find a copy with traditional Chinese subtitles somewhere...?

Peony can fight, but (despite his giant sword collection) he's pure martial artist, so he doesn't fight with weapons. In Tales of Fandom 2 he fights off some jerk attacking a woman (Jade and Guy just stand there and sigh, way to go guys) and he uses some traditional Tales of bare-handed moves, like Swallow Kick, IIRC.

I'm of the opinion that he does have more traditional weapons training, but he doesn't like it -- doesn't like killing people. So while I don't think he would be happy to have Jade killing people unless there was absolutely no other way, I really doubt he'd be sick or angry over it.

(In my head, Peony's reaction is kind of sad. Jade still doesn't understand the value of human life.)

ANYWAY WHAT I CAME HERE TO SAY WAS sfkhsgkjshlgjs PRETTY, I lovelovelove Jade without his coat and Peony's puffy pants. X3

Is he a martial artist!? Damn, I didn't know that! I just figured he used spears because Jade does, and I can kinda see them having the same weapon of choice.
Plus, spears go with his clothes. :/

I think that while Peony might not kill for kicks, and he probably doesn't like seeing Jade kill, he can probably do it if he had to. He's the king and all, he needs to do what's necessary.

And Peony's puffy pants are so fun to draw. xDD

Totally true story, but it's from Tales of Fandom, so you could never guess from playing the game. (Most people conclude he uses swords BECAUSE of his sword collection, but in TOF Anise assumes he's a swordsman and he corrects her, he just collects those for fun, apparently. XD ) But I love art of Peony with weapons. It's so pretty. XD And the spear really does suit him here.

I love that you're doing so much of Jade and Peony! Their characters come through so clearly in your art! And yeah, go Peony, make him take it off! Make him follow your shirtless example. XD

I'm so glad you have that link, I was too lazy to go hunt it down~ Also, while it isn't "art", the character disc might be good for this -- in Yulia City, in one of the rooms in Tear's "apartment," you can get the character disc and take a good 3D look at all the characters in the game, so that might help get a good idea of Peony's costume/appearance.

Blood Brothers sucked. ;(

I like how this version of 1930s Shanghai features gangs of immaculately dressed, physically attractive men marching around while chain-smoking. Occasionally they will get into gunfights and knifefights en masse, while still immaculately dressed and chain-smoking.

Meanwhile, every single female in the area is either rich, gorgeous, and in a cheongsam, or poor, gorgeous, and with their hair tied into two braids. It's like some kind of beautiful bizzaro world.

Also for the New Shanghai Bund, I'm pretty sure they have it in traditional subs somewhere. This is one of the ending songs and the subs are in traditional there, sooo ....

I'm pretty sure the only official art of Peony is screenshots XDD and maybe that Tales of.. uh, you know. The thing with random Tales characters in it.
